Post-Majority Care Services Toolkit

First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) Program funds First Nations and First Nation authorized service providers to support delivery of prevention and protection services to meet the needs of children, youth and families ordinarily resident on reserve or in the Yukon.

April 1, 2022 ISC began fudning Post Majority Care Services as part of “immediate measures”

The revised FNCFS Program Terms and Conditions continue to improve aspects of the program that were determined by the Tribunal to be discriminatory and support the implementation of the immediate measures toward long term reform of the child and family services program.

FNCFS funds First Nations and First Nation authorized service providers to deliver Post Majority Services

  • at actual cost
  • to youth aging out of care and young adults who were formerly in alternative care from the age of majority up to and including the age of 25

The extension of care services aims to achieve positive outcomes for First Nations youth by:

  • Providing voluntary wrap-around supports in the transition of First Nations youth into adulthood and independence that meets their distinct needs, support their safety and well-being in a culturally appropriate way that is in their self-identified best interest, and provided on the basis of substantive equality.
